Greetings Cat:  Without question, the best way to travel is in your own private Lear Jet! 

Commercially, first class seating isn't as much the airline as it is the plane you're flying in.  The wider the jet, the better the seating.  Streamline planes, such as an MD-80 and up through a 737 have smaller seating.  A jumbo jet provides you with the most room and comfort.

Wherever you are off to, safe travel and enjoy your trip.

I'm not sure about which american airline but Cathay Pacific seems to have the widest bed width!
