I found a blog which has an answer to this question, but the link is not working for some reason. Here's how I found it: Go to www.ask.com and type in the question, 'How did the city of Chicago get its name.'
A link will come up which gives various answers from readers. A separate link will also come up in a list on the right hand side of your screen. Click on the link which says 'How Chicago got its name.'
That page is a blog which also contains historical information and references.
