A:In traditional animistic cultures in the middle east and Asia, during the lunar new year each family house will cut down a tree from the forest and bring it to the courtyard of their house. The celebrations will then focus around that tree, there will be music dancing etc.....they believe that by bringing in the tree from the forest, they are calling back the spirits of their ancestors. From there it was adopted and adapted by Christianity.
