Christmas Trees and Merry Christmas

Should schools allow Christmas trees in classrooms?  Why is it not politically correct  to say, Merry Christmas?

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

You can say Merry Christmas to whoever you want, but it's safer to say Happy Holidays if you aren't sure that the person is Christian.  Only Christians celebrate Christmas and there are a lot of people in America that practice other religions.  In school, I don't think it's fine to put a Christmas tree if they are also willing to have a Hanukah menora, and the symbols that the other religions use for their holidays.  Truthfully, I think it's easier for the schools to just leave these ornaments out.  School is for learning... and the holidays will be celebrated at home.  There are parents that purposely send their children to private religious schools, and in this case of course it's fine to put up a tree or whatever... but if it's a public school with people from all religions and beliefs, I think it's better without.

Ivy, sorry it took so long to get back.  I disagree with your answer.  It seems to me that the problem we are facing in society at present, is because of "no back bone folks" who just fall asunder to anything.  All my life I have said, "Merry Christmas."  When in grade school, and Jr. High, we always had a Christmas tree in the corner of the class room.  Two of my dearest friends were Jewish.  Not once did they complain about the Christmas program, the Christmas tree, or "Merry Christmas."  They understood we, as a Christian nation celebrate the birth of Christ, on the appointed day, Dec. 25th.  I don't think that the Jewish students are those causing the big hoop-la about prayer in classrooms, reading the Bible, Christmas trees etc.  It is those who have come to our Country, dragging their customs behind them, expecting us to honor their religion, yet they have no intent to honor ours.

As long as there are people, such as yourself, who simply say, "Oh that's ok we will remove the Christmas tree, we won't offend you and your beliefs by having a Christmas program, and for certain, we will never mention the name of God in our classrooms,"  then soon, and sooner than I like to think, the people of our Country, will lose all standards.  If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.  Ivy, I believe you have fallen.

Mammasgirl and Ivy Tamara, Christmas trees, Christmas Carols, Santa Clause, Jesus' birth political correctness. All of these and many more are sythoms of the real problem. What is the real Problem? The loss of faith and belief. Too many people think they nolonger need the hand or the help of GOD. How often do you say, "Thank you GOD FOR..." Let's admit it, if we do not thank GOD for what we have, when will we be thankful for the country we live in. If we don't feel blessed for this country, then why should we celebrate the birth of Christ with Christ-mas? In fact, why not just make Halloween a year round celebration? I am sorry, If you are watching the news, we already do. Symbols of Goodness, Forgiveness, Faith, Hope, Promise, the Future and all things good are represented with a simple decorated Christmas Tree displayed in a classroom during the Christmas season. Put Christ first, then the tree and any other religous representation and celebration item after this because, the United States was founded on Christian Principles, not all the other religions. The United States used to be a unique country; a Melting pot accepting to all with goood and honorable intentions. Now the United States has become an Ice Tray dividing and seperating all. Next we will all have the deep freeze to look forward to. Climb out of your compartment and be a real American UNDER GOD. PUT UP THE TREE IN CLASSROOMS AND LEAVE IT UP THROUGH THE SEASON.
