Interesting question—but what type of dish are you looking for when you say "the best recipe"? Are you looking for main dishes? Side dishes? Desserts? If you haven't tried a "traditional" Christmas dinner (with the turkey/roast beef/ham, mashed potatoes, and all the fixin's) you really must! Check out this website for specific recipes related to this: www.bhg.com/holidays/christmas/recipes/.

On the other hand, I really like to try new  things for Christmas dinner. We always go traditional on Thanksgiving, but our Christmas menu is unique and  fun. For example, we've done themes for Mexican Christmas, Fondue Dinner, Spring Roll Party, Pasties, Paella, Appetizers and Wine, and more. Every year it's something new and interesting (which reminds me, I have to plan something for this year!). I think Christmas dinner can be fun or elegant.  When my boys were much younger we had whatever they requested, as long as it was homemade:  mac-n-cheese,  pizzas,  a day of hors doeuvres, etc...  Now that all of our tastes have become more refined we enjoy prime rib, roasted sprouts, garlic mashed potatoes,  or tenderloins and lobster tails with wild rice and carrots glazed with an orange sauce.  Dessert has always been something different alongside something traditional.  A blackforest trifle and pumkin pie,   cream puffs and apple pie,  struffoli and sugar cookies - basically whatever I thought I would like to try to create for that year that was out of the norm for our family.

A trip to Home Town Buffet, Picadilly's or Ponderosa so everyone can have their choice of what they would like to eat and Mom and Dad can relax and spend time together with their children, instead of Mom cooking for 2 days, serving and doing dishes all Christmas day.  We started doing this 4 or 5 years ago and everyone looks forward to Christmas Dinner.  No muss, no fuss, someone else does all the cooking and cleanup.

I think the best recipe is Rice & Peas with fried chicken, roast beef, roast pork, curried mutton with some steamed vegetables and of course for the beverage sarrel wine
