Why are Christians so unlike Christ?

Why do the Christians of today misuse the BIble?  Have they forgotten or did they never understand its purpose?  It seems that the majority of Christians today think that the Bible was intended to judge and persecute.

Why are these so-called Christians so resistent to Christ's teachings? It is as if the muddle of man's perceptions in this area have reverted back to the rut that history has shown man always gets into when it comes to understandiong God?  Again we need another Patriarch like Abraham, Jesus or Homer to rexplain and clarify!  Is it because they have plugged thier ears to the other parts of the puzzle?

It is common knowledge that Sargon and Zisudra, Leto, Odysseus, Chiron and Minos have all had written accounts of their lives centuries prior to Abraham.  These stories are attibuted to the human perspective of the inherited memories of all peoples.

In the time before Abraham, man lived in a frightening world, where Man itself was not the focus of religions.  Instead the primordial concepts of vast pantheons of Gods.  This is how Man's mind made sense of the world around him.  The myths that are told before Abraham are only concerned with the lives of these Gods, they do not concern the affairs of men.  In this time when man thought in this way, it was the way we projected our subconcious reality.  No limits was man's perception and very vulnerable to the world.

As man began to formulate a more concious awareness of his world, the majority of his co-inhabitants were amok in the frightful worship of these so-called dieties (but really these were just the collective subconciousness of the race making sense of a very dangerous world). The time was wrought with strange cults that committed unspeakable acts.  If the tide turned against you, you felt you had somehow angered the Gods, to appease them they would do whatever, sacrafice their children, a common activity because they were considered to be the most prized of possesions and thus defining true sacrafice.

Abraham was a revolutionary who saw this practice as for what it was, foolish and sick.  The fact that his story was percieved in the myths (Man's Collective Subconcious) centuries before he walked the earth, shows that man's mind is capable of formulating its own reality.  A dangerous thing if not understood by the masses. But prophetic nonetheless like the dream state.

Just as centuries before Jesus, man's perception could forsee his arrival.  In fact the names i mentioned above are all Mythological 'prophecies' if you will of the very charachters whose stories are retold in the Bible.  Not to say that none of these people existed, they are as real as the others that preceeded them.

What i am saying is that thier mark on the world was related back to these ancient peoples by the priests and rabbis through the already familliar traditional tales.  The borrowing of the older myths is quite obvious throughout the bible.  Especially Greek ones, which were the most well known and ancient.

The purpose of this was to redefine their meanings as they were so completely misinterpreted.  So although the heros of the bible were real, their stories are given to us as known myths, repackaged so that they were not misunderstood again.

The New testament is another example of this, Jesus came to set straight the misinterpretations of the earlier testament.  The saddest and surprising thing is that a couple of millenia later we are again in need of clarification.  We have again run amok with misguided interpretation.

Like the polythesism and then the pre-Christ Leviticism, we are again killing people in the name of short sighted perception.  Worse now is that we are wholly conscious of it.  Like medieval europe, people don't even bother to listen to any other perspectives of the universe, they are quite literally sticking thier fingers in their ears.  They view science as a nemesis out to confuse, forgetting that science was appointed the task of delivering us a better understanding of God.

Science too have forgotten the reasons for their pursuit, to understand the true nature of God.  If everyone could remember the message of Christ:  that the whole of humanity is stemmed from but one source, we are all brothers and therefore everyones perspective is invaluable because it gives us the complete picture.  Those who wish to make determinations knowing only a fragment of the truth are simply unequipped to speak for God.

The other perspectives are all pieces, like the biblical epoch, to the picture of truth! These other views are not meant to replace your own beliefs, but to enhance them!

For the truth seekers: The names above are equated to the following biblical epochs:
Sargon - Moses
Zisudra - Noah
Leto - Mary
Odysseus - The Gospel of Mark (written in Greek)
Chiron - Jesus Christ
Minos - Abraham
You will note that each of those names are of men not Gods. Save for Chiron!

 Be Thankful

 Speak softly

 Let your love shine...

I think it is because we do not read and think prayerfully for ourselves.  We rely on others to do the work of thinking and figuring out for us.  It's difficult to decipher, so we imagine we know and we listen to the thinking of others and forget that Christ speaks to us personally.  Also, being Christ-like, truly Christ-like is durn near impossible for us.  Christ was the example that we are to follow and we continually fall short and we know it and many of us give up and give in.  We fail to listen to God with an open heart and mind.  We do not have the patience we need to find God, so we shrug our mental shoulders and move on to a simpler way of thinking, and it is not satisfying to us, but we don't seem to realize that God and Christ Presence is there for us, and given freely by Grace.  To wake us up to our potential...perhaps we do need another Abraham...but that's such a shame...when the blueprint for living the full life is there for us...waiting patiently...

I told Njoy I could not share this answer with you, but I am curious about how you will respond.

I checked Branivian's profile and found he is not a Christian, he does have a hidden agenda, therefore any answer to his question is only meant for debate and not a sincere and truthful answer. Atheists have neither spiritual understanding nor anyone in Branivian's spiritual condition; because their heart is in gross darkness they cannot understand those things that are in the light. Branivian in other answers holds the position that Christianity is a myth like a world religion. I am amazed how atheist think they have the corner market on anything that has to do with Christianity, not knowing what they think they know is corrupted by the carnal mind, which is incapable of understanding spiritual truth; they use a Christian's desire to help sincere seekers to find Salvation through Jesus Christ to spread their lies like Barjesus and Simon in the book of Acts.

He does not have a sincere interest in knowing why the majority who call themselves Christian do not live like Christ. For lack of the power Holy Spirit in a believer's life they go about making their own "moral code" to justify a lifetime of worldly and carnal behavior contrary to what Jesus and the Apostles taught. Jesus is our example of what God requires of Christians; to live contrary, not making an effort to walk in His example of obedience, places us in jeopardy of the Judgment. God has mercy on those who strive to obey Him, not on those who live their life in Christ any old way they want then expect Him to grant them eternal life, He will not; Jesus gave many parable to share this fact when speaking to the religious leaders of his days as a man on earth.

I can't share this with Branivian because he won't understand it, I've tried this with Physicalist and DYK but to no avail because they are blind to the things of the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is on the earth, but only in the heart of a true Christian. In reality the only one we should be sharing our answers with is those who are answering an atheist's questions, not with the atheist. I want an atheist to find Jesus just like for anyone else, but there comes a point, where I see a pattern that is not being broken, that I choose not to continue my conversation with them, when I find I am beginning to repeat myself there is no more need to talk.

This is what I AM waiting for in all of GODS children. Logic, understanding, forgiveness and all the good things to come out, and more reality!

Firstly, I suspect christians broke themselves into these little sub-divided(branches) OF- Christianity, simply because , well, I will make it a story and its a true one that I have whitnessed of a family of christians...

They proclaimed themselves saved one day, ( I will skip of why), but anyway, they were going to church normally for a while. Then perhaps, after a while, they were told they were not doing enough, after takeing The pasters words too seriously that they are never saved and all guilty of sin. They probally wanted a definate answer and know for sure, so they not need worry about it (I suspect, and thats what everybody wants, right?), but after realizeing and hearing they were still not saved (probally after a paster said a specific sin that thay realized they were doing), and getting upset and angrier at the paster and church for makeing them feel guilty of their ways, finally said to themselves, well , thats it, we are good people and according to the paster, we are not saved ! And that was that for that particular parish, so off to another, that will not point out their own guilt...

So number two came along, and I went with them off and on, on this adventure as well. It did not take long till the paster there, got too specific for them, and they realized they are not saved yet, so they thought that going more often will make sure they were saved (no matter what), and singing more , and judgeing more, (I noticed) was there way of repentence. ????. They still did'nt get it (I was thinking)...Thet was it for this particular parish...

Off to the third one, and 45 min. out of town, going twice on sundays, and whoa! hold on here my friends, do ya think this will save you for sure, and several testimonials to boot? (I was thinking)... And they got annoyingly too specific, and too set in there ways and I could just not take it anymore and I just stopped going...They had their third chance with me, and I did write them and tell them of my three chances...

I AM  your 3rd and final whittness of GOD, and I have gotten sign afetr sign, (so-called) co-incedence after co-incedence , and all kinds of things have happened to me since the year 2000, when I was hit like a brick from GOD. I have  been watched , and visited by spirits and yes! Other people do know of me, but do not come forward, because I was as confused as Jesus was, (god and mystery hey). I suspect he kept me asking for the simple reason of keeping me ritious and to experience what Jesus had to go through, for his short 3 years of people whitnessing , yet doubting anyway of him. But afetr saturday, and a sign in may, I have no doubt that I was chosen to smarten people up about religion and the real and pure LOVE of GOD and the care (and so on) that people are sopposed to FEEL! NOT SHOW FOR PRIDE! to one another... I cannot write anymore at this moment, for I have to go to work, to make a wage that I cannot supportn myself on anyway...So if you can allow yourself to give me a chance to explain more of the REAL TRUTH, and so that I know you are serious with this. PLEEESE write to me and I will reply! hopefully , YEDDA WILL ALLOW ME TO PUT MY E-MAIL ON HERE, and if they do not, do some homewrork and find me, it should be easy... derekzary828@yahoo.ca   bye bye and GOD bless...

Theologically speaking, the example of a perfect life and the example of the ten commandments are not designed to make believers despair. The intent is to demostrate the utter futility of trying to please the deity through works alone; obviously everyone breaks a commandment or two or doesn't live a perfect life.

An imperfect being cannot be perfect. You cannot be more powerful than yourself; it is contradiction. Why then wonder why believers are incapable of emulating the perfect life?

Branavian I am sorry for mentioning you are an atheist with a hidden agenda, in looking over your list of answers I misread one to imply that you had written you believe Christianity to be a myth, the very thing that atheist believe. The other is that your profile list topics strictly gay marriage and homosexuality. I presumed with these two things that you are a homosexual atheist. If Njoy believes a practicing homosexual can be a Christian I am not aware of this, but in the book of Romans Paul explicitly responses negatively to homosexuality and uses the example of Sodom and whole valley were Sodom was located having been destroyed by fire from heaven to show how much God is opposed to it.

Homosexuality is not just a sin it is an abomination. If you are going to believe the Bible you must believe the whole thing and not just what fits your fancy to justify your sinful behavior in this regard or any other wicked thing you choose to be a part of. The doctrine of the Nicolaitians, mentioned in the book of Revelation, is historically known to encourage all types of sexual sin, a doctrine which God says He hates. Because you pick and choose what you want to believe from the scriptures you have created you own "moral code" to justify a world-like and carnal lifestyle which is contrary to the Word of God.

True saints of God pattern their life in Christ after the example of Jesus. Jesus was not a practicing homosexual though many like you would deceive yourself in finding a way to believe He was. You do greatly err; you are incorrectly assuming that because some animals do such a thing that God is OK with that, it only proves how the sinful condition because of the rebellion of Adam and Even to God's command has affected all of creation and not just humans.

As for your last paragraph Atheist state the same argument, and Jesus said narrow is the way to eternal like a few there be that find it, you obviously are one of those who haven't.

exactly what does the word CHRISTIAN mean and why is it important? I was raised a baptist in a loving baptist family with a gentle minister in my youth. I was baptised in  a tank. I continued to be a Baptist until my children led me to The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. We do not fear our H.P  Not long ago our UU district rep told us to stop beating up on the Chrisians. For the life of me I cannot understand why there must be so many denominations when we all trust the same God. I live the best life I can TODAY and am not afraid of tomorrow

It's true, the Bible is an allegorical work, not a book of literal non-fiction. However, I think the appropriate answer to your question is "lack of understanding", generally speaking.

It's not impossible to try and live like Messiah Yahshua, but you need the right mindset. He showed us how to do it. We just need to recognize our selfish inclinations as the basis of sin. In fact, selfishness IS sin. To truly love is to be as selfless as possible and righteousness is selfless love. We understand that we falter from time to time, but we at least TRY.

Once you have that, then you can decide what is righteous and what isn't, but within yourself first.

Romans 7: 2 For I delight in the law of YHWH after the inward (spiritual) man: 23 But I see another law in my members (physical), warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin (selfishness) which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank YHWH through (the teachings of) Messiah Yahshua. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin (self).

I read through your exchange with Sam before I answered, Branavian.

The Law (Marriage Covenant of Love) wasn't written for those who do not choose to do it. The Law was written for those who make the covenant with YHWH. ONLY IF you are under the law, can you be corrected (and only by others who keep the law).

For example, I can safely assume that Sam doesn't keep the whole law, so he has no right whatsoever to tell you that you need to keep it, either (not one law or another). I keep the whole law (by choice), but if you don't I cannot tell you that you have to keep it (one law or another), or correct you in it, because you don't keep it. You are not under that Covenant because you haven't chosen it.

The reality is, you can either choose it or not. YHWH's all about freewill, not force. Those that come to him do so freely.

Isaiah 56: 6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to YHWH, to serve him, and to love the name of YHWH, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;

7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

8 YHWH which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.
