What can Christians do to strengthen our faith to avoid temptation (such as sex, money, etc)?

How is a Christian supposed to survive in such a temptful world? sex, money, etc?????

What can a Christian  do to strengthen his  faith to avoid temptation? (sorry for the double question)

Avoiding temptation is next to impossible.  However, there are ways to handle it so that it's not as strong of a temptation for you.  I find that a strong and devout prayer life is key.  My husband and I pray together every night before going to sleep (always a different prayer), before each meal and during any other times when we need strength and/or guidance.  Honestly, there have been times when I was so tempted by something that I simply lowered my head, clasped my hands together and prayed only "Help me, Help me, Help me...dear God, please help me!" over and over.  It worked.  When I accept that I cannot control anything other than my own reactions to things, it's much easier to give it up to God.

Simply put...is your soul worth the 15-20 min. of pleasure you would gain from whatever sin it is that's tempting you?  If the answer is no (and for the record, it should ALWAYS be no), then simply resolve to walk away and pray.  Don't be ashamed because you were tempted.  That is natural and unavoidable.  What you can control is how you choose to deal with that temptation.

Great answer. Prayer really is powerful. In my experiences some times the temptation to sin is so strong I don't even want to Pray! I want to sin!!!  So believe me, you have to use a lot of discipline and determination to Pray and ask God to help you want to Pray!

I don't know how socialable you are, but I'd also like to suggest you find, or start a Bible Study Group.  Just a bunch of people who get together once or twice a week and you all read and discuss the Bible together.  It's a great way to make a circle of good Christian friends who you have God in common with.... almost like a healthy support group.  We all struggle with temptation and sin in our lives every day.. when you have a couple good Christian friends they will always remind you you're not alone!

That's an excellent answer, as well.  By the way, the Bible Study is a great idea.  My husband and I also host one every Friday night.  You're right, it's a wonderful support network and truly helps keep us focused.

God bless!  Chris
