Several passages in the Bible refer to the unforgivable sin:

  • Mark 3:28-30: "Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven all their sins and all the blasphemies they utter. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin. He said this because they [the Pharisees] were saying, ‘He has an evil spirit’."
  • Matthew 12:30-32: "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. And so I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy. But the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."
  • Luke 12:8-10: "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven."
  • Hebrews 6:4-8: "It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned. Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case — the things that have to do with salvation."
  • Hebrews 10:26-29: "For we—sinning wilfully without compulsion after receiving the full knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and fiery zeal about to consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think those deserve to be punished who have trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has considered as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who have insulted the Spirit of grace?"

All three of the Gospel passages are in a context in which Jesus ministry is being criticized by the Pharisees, specifically in which they ascribe his miraculous works to Satan

The bible talks about unforgivable sin(s) in all the main books but theoretically if you repent your actions and honestly feel you have changed, there is nothing you cannot be forgiven for.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN A SIN BE FORGIVEN?

There is gotta be something that you have done that you went to church, confessed your sin and after that, you did it again! I just wonder if anybody knows a biblical citation that says how many times a sin can be forgiven. I mean, you know you did wrong, go to church, confess it and do it again, seems to me like you did not care about the advice given or the fact that you were forgiven by your priest, pastor, leader, etc.

I know I am one of the people above, and that is why I ask you this question. Sometimes for example, say you get mad at your friend and you insulted him, then you go and confess it and you are forgiven. Then, next week, something happen, and you did it again. Are there any boundaries for our creator to forgive us more than one time?

Say for example, a gay person who lives with the guilt of being gay, and does something wrong and goes to church to confess it, and he is told he is forgiven but he has to stop doing that, but he does it again because he cannot help it. What would your advice be in this one?

Personally, before when I used to go to church, I used to commit the same mistake over again, and it got to a point that I felt uncomfortable going to church to be forgiven because maybe the priest will listen from me the same sin over again. I guess this is one of the reasons also, I decided to stop going to any church and create my own which is to have a personal communication with God, and feel guilty with my head down pretending I am confessing personally with him, do you think this work? Do you think I will deserve salvation or I am hallucinating things that do not exist?

MATTHEW 12: 31 “On this account I say to YOU, Every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. 32 For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come. (WE WERE BORN IN SIN, GOD WANTS US TO DO OUR BEST)

MATTHEW 18 : 21 Then Peter came up and said to him: “Lord, how many times is my brother to sin against me and am I to forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him: “I say to you, not, Up to seven times, but, Up to seventy-seven times. (INDICATING UNLIMITED FORGIVENESS)

MATTHEW 23: 6 They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats in the synagogues, 7 and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by men. 8 But YOU, do not YOU be called Rabbi, for one is YOUR teacher, whereas all YOU are brothers. 9 Moreover, do not call anyone YOUR father on earth, for one is YOUR Father, the heavenly One (CONFESSION TO A HUMAN IS A MAN-MADE TRADITION, NOT A BIBLE TEACHING)

Nice to see you Asha - where've you been? A lot's happened since you were last active.

I consider myself an Agnostic, so perhaps most people will think I have no business answering this question - but I believe that if there is a God, there is no way you will not ultimately be forgiven for your mistakes.

I think you may have to jump through a few hoops to learn whatever lesson may be tied to those mistakes - but I think that the bottom line is that everyone will have acceptance (or forgiveness, call it whatever you like).
