Cholesterol and depression

Last week I found out my cholesterol was 301 with a poor ratio and high triglycerides. I have started an extreme diet. I am 57 weigh 170 at 5'10". I have hade overbearing stress for three years. Can stress contribute to high chloesterol? I started on statins but prefer to get this under control without such medications. Thank You David

I think that for now, it's important that you take the medicine to bring your cholesterol to a safe number.  At the same time, watch your fat and cholesterol intake.  Also, find some sort of exercise that you can do at least 3 times per week, even if it's just taking a 40 minute walk every day.  This is what your body needs physically.  I would also do some soul searching to find out what you can do to lower your stress levels.  Try to solve these things that have been plaguing you, or try to look at them with a different perspective that will keep you more relaxed.  Yes, stress and cholesterol can be related.  Also, maybe it would help to talk to a therapist to see if it helps to relieve your stress-levels.  Good luck and take care of yourself.

Great advise but he also needs to watch out for a couple of things in his lab numbers. His Glucose levels.

Another thing to watch out for at your age with the numbers you have is DIABETES!!

The wonderful silent killer. So, get your glucose tested and if it's high get the free, yes free daily tester so you can monitor your glucose level more closely. Your insurance will pay for the additional supplies you'll need after the "free" stuff is used up.

EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE!!!! It's one of the easiest ways to beat Type II Diabetes. Get out and walk 3 times a week. That's WALK not Stroll! Swim once or twice a week. Listen it's the easiest way to save your life. And nobody is going to do it for you. Good luck!

Simple Advice for a Better Quality of Life!

Hi David,

Well I am very happy to hear you decided it was time for some life changing decisions.  I believe I can definitely point you in the right direction to getting healthy.  First off, I am pro-natural healing.  With that being said, here are my suggestions and if you need anymore, please do not hesitate to contact me.

1.  Your Depression/Stress - it seems this has been quite a large part of your life and probably it contributing to causing the most demise on your body and mind.  You must address both aspects to truly get your health under control.  All positive change starts within your mind though.  I was a depression-susceptible person all my life until I learned to balance my internal chemistry.  Use Xtend-Life Total Balance for Men.  There are over 80 different all natural ingredients, including a small amount of natural Lithium Carbonate (known to help depression, bipolar, personality disorders, etc).  Believe me, that is such a small benefit compared to everything else it does in ensuring you are receiving proper nutrients in order to maintain a healthy mental and physical balance.  You should notice results in just a few days of starting on them.  These are especially important if you are extreme dieting because you WILL be robbing your body of nutrients which could possibly cause you to go into a further depression.

2.  Yes, your depression and stress are direct contributors to your cholesterol and even more so to your heart!  Treat your body David, not the symptoms.  I promise you if you take this approach, you will develop a healthier overall mindset.  As for naturally treating your cholesterol and avoiding the burdening side effects, I recommend you use Cholest-Natural by Xtend-Life

I am not trying to sell you anything, I just want to provide you with the things I know work.

3.  Exercise!  Brisk Walking is the best for you and for burning fat (far better than running, plus a whole lot less impact).  Also try a weight bearing exercise program.  I can give you tips on simple routines if you want more info, just send me a message.

If you need any other healthy tips, David, you can visit my site where I have some articles on healthy living - vitaminmagi.com or just message me.

Maybe you should try the Body Detox regiment I put up there as a beginning to an overall lifestyle change - "How to Detoxify Your Body"
and also "Managing Depression" (my personal story in a nutshell).
