Chinese Man dies after 3-day gaming binge

I read on CNN that a Chinese man died after after 3-day gaming binge, and I remember there were a few cases like this in the last couple of years. I think it happens too often (really -- dying from playing computer games! It's totally crazy, don't you think?).

Anyway, my question is: why don't the game developers make it impossible to play a game for this long? Can't they program the games to force a break after, say, 3 hours?

Why do alcohol manufacturers make it possible to get drunk? Why do TV manufacturers make it possible to watch TV for 5 days straight? Why do food manufacturers make it possible for people to overeat and have a heart attack? I could go on forever.

Adults have to take responsibility for their actions. I don't want the government and corporations making these decisions for me, I'm smart enough to make them myself. And if I'm not - well, that's my problem.

People will do stupid things no matter what. You can't outlaw stupidity, and people will get themselves killed and injured no matter how hard anyone tries to help. One guy dies from heart failure or stress from a game and it's a big deal. But hundreds of thousands die yearly from job related stress and health related issues which were just as preventable, and no one bats an eye.

The real answer is, gaming companies don't limit game time because it's unnecessary and people would hack their way around them in an instant anyway.

I think it is not that amazing I know a person which developed epilepsy resulting in many hours in front of a PC game. This is just another example of our modern society sickness we helped develop. It is starting to become scary I must add. Abot the game,  this is  the price  our society is willing to

take in order not to have other people interfere in what we do . Like Ninjarabbi mentioned there are many examples but this is sometimes what the freedom right leads too. There also are lots of financial reasons why the companies won't limit the gaming time for them the more you play the more they profit therefore don't forget that in out capitalistic world you have the right to do what ever you want with what you posses.

Talk is always never cheap

I hear you, they really should. Just like they give kids Recess, and provide runners with Water,  they should put a limit on how long a person can actually play.  So many people have this insatiable appetite to compete and to win.. they just don't know when to quit.  People die in all kinds of competitions because they push themselves way too hard.  Since nothing can or will be done about it,  the best thing we can do is learn not to make the same mistakes they have made,  and teach our Children well.

I remember playing arcade games for 10 hours straight in local arcades when I was younger, but this is ridiculous.  And I have no idea why the console doesnt just shut off.
