A man (or woman) who won't die for something is not fit to live.

I'm not sure if this is along the lines of what you're looking for, but I find that children are losing their innocence a lot earlier because of computers and technology.  It's as if nothing is a big deal anymore.  Violence is available in abundance online and through video games.  Politics and scandals are revealed to those of all ages.  Most importantly and obviously, young kids are flirting on instant messenger and making hook-up dates online, under-age kids are looking at porn, kids are flirting with strangers and saying inappropriate things over the internet via messenger and email.  Kids know the internet better than their parents do, so parental controls tend to not work very well.  I think that a part of the reason why so many teens are getting pregnant is because the world is so liberal and open to them through the internet... just food for thought.

It's hard to answer the questions you're asking since the reality of the internet is a new one. My thought is that there certainly is an affect but I can't really say how strong it is.

I think though, that important lessons can be taught through the internet regarding how to manage your time. If parents limit a child to only a certain amount of hours every day of internet use he eventually learns how to bide his time.
