my 1992 chevy lumina van began backfiring and died. Now I can't get it to crank. What can be the problem
I am not positive about this, but backfire is a timing issue. You might have broken a timing belt or it slipped

I'm not sure but i think your car has an interferance engine.
That means that if the timing belt jumps a few teeth or breaks, the valves hit the pistons and seize up the motor.
But this is only a guess
