Chevy cargo van stops running

we have a chevy cargo van, It just stops sometimes after running an hour and sometimes after 5 min, just stops in the middle of everything.  I took it to dobbs they said it was my distributor, had the distributor changed and it still did it, they then said it was my fuel pump, changed the fuel pump twice and it is still doing it, anyone with any ideas?

Check the coil, voltage regulator, alternator, ignition wiring, spark plugs, try to check for fuel clogs.

Mechanics replace "parts" till it's fixed, ASE Technicians replace the part that fixes the problem!

Not giving the year or engine size makes it difficult to help you.  The coil, (voltage regulator built into the alternator), alternator, ignition wiring, spark plugs should always be checked for being in good condition. Fuel clogs are highly unlikely as the GM Elec. fuel pump produces approx. 110 psi and will blow through the paper element of the fuel filter and send all the dirt to the injectors. The pressure is regulated down at the injector loop by the pressure regulator to approx. 36 psi. A good reason to change the filter every 30k. The suggestion of a crank sensor failure is a good one, as they are known to fail. But if there is no fault code set in the ECM for this failure then it is not likely the problem. If no fault codes are set into the ECM when this problem occurs, we have to look outside the ECM controlled sensors and switches that could make the eng shut down and not restart till it's ready. One common source for this problem is the main relay mounted on the firewall under the hood. Either the terminals corrode causing poor connections or the relay is going bad (Temp. sensitive) and opens causing no power to injectors or fuel pump. This relay will not set a fault code. It is a black double looking relay with 2 gang connector plugs and cost about $35 at the dealer, more at your local parts store. This is only an educated guess based on the information you gave. Remember Mechanics replace parts till it's fixed; Technicians replace the part that fixes the problem! These days with onboard computers and diagnostic equipment, guessing at what parts to replace says you don't know what your doing! Hope you got your money back for the parts and labor they tried.    Good Luck!    (Yama54 ASE Master certified)

Try the coil it is probably getting hot and breaking down.

Try the coil when thay get hot they break down.
