In world class chess history, what is the longest ANNOUNCED mating sequence? I'm looking for the players and the game itself. Thanks...................TG
I'm not sure about the longest mating sequence, but I'm familiar with the longest game with modern rules. Here's a Wikipedia quote: "The longest tournament chess game ever to be played under modern time rules was Nikoli? - Arsovi?,

With what pieces left is it impossible to checkmate? In other words, can you checkmate with just a rook and a king left? How about 2 knights and the king? 2 bishops and a king? etc. What other combinations are not possible.
Thanks
