Okay, folks, we're into ionic chemistry.
1. Learn the rules of stochiometry.
2. Learn a bit of quantum theory.
Onward. Let's presume you have two solutions: 1 mol HCl, and 1 mol NaOH.
Both ions dissociate in H/2\O forming:
H+ -- HOH -- Cl- The other solution is Na+ -- HOH --OH-
So far, so good. Now, it becomes a bit counterintuitive.
H+ -- HOH -- OH- = 2 H/2\O
Na+ -- Cl- = NaCl
Now, we have a stable salt, and water. Does that make sense?
