The health insurance plans offered by colleges and universities have very limited coverage. If you can afford to pay for it, by all means get it. However, if you are cash-strapped like many college students are, you may as well spend the money on improving your health - like joining a fitness center, buying healthy foods, renting a decent apartment in a good neighborhood, etc. For the most part, I think cheap student health insurance is a waste of money, because most students never get to cash in on it.
