Can One Charge his body with "sleep"?. Something like, Sleep 12 hours now, and you'll lack the need to sleep for more than the usual. What do you say?
Lack of sleep isn't something that can be compensated. Assuming that the human body needs 7-8 hours of sleep per night, if you slept only 3, you won't sleep 5 hours more on the next night.
That same principle works on the opposite way too. You can't "pre-sleep" in order to compensate on a future loss of sleep. If you'll sleep 12 hours most of the chances are that you feel very sleepy during you activity period.
From my experience (non-scientific) you need to compensate for lack of sleep - but you can't pre-charge yourself with extra-sleep hours. moreover if you sleep too much - you will be more tired during the following day. I can usually work on something for 24-36 hours without sleep and then sleep for about 12 hours and wake up fresh, from what I see around me - that is fairly uncommon though. of course - there are other issues to be taken into account like the quality of sleep, the human body behaves differently when sleeping in a well lit environment than in a dark environment. it really depends on what you're used to.

Sleeping habits are very personal. For instance, Thomas Edison used to sleep for one to two hours on a cot in his lab and then return to work. He made no attempt to create a sleep bank from which he could withdraw sleep hours to compensate for those when he was awake. The best advice for us normal humans is to try to get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night and avoid erratic sleep hours. It even works the other way, After twelve hours continuous sleep you would feel more tired while working as opposed a strict regimen.
Wow, Thanks for all the information.
