My wife and I are thinking about purchasing a brand new brick home that is listed at about 30% below market value. The problem is that we really prefer the look of stone. What is the best (read: highest quality) way to change a brick home to a stone-sided home, if this type of thing is even possible? I would greatly appreciate any advice, including any information regarding potential costs associated with this type of project in Northern Virginia, to a home with approximately 4000 sf of finished interior, above grade space (2 floors not including attic space)

If you really have your heart set on hand-fitted stone, the best move would be stone wainscotting and leave the brick in place.
Flagstone (usually flat, easy to set, and tasty) would be your best bet. Put it directly over the existing brick, and set a ledger at the top of your 32" wainscotting.
Brick is nothing more than zero-maintenance siding. Stone is nothng more than natural brick. One goes atop the other very well. Any qualified stone contractor will gladly bid your project.

this is not a problem, we have a home on our web site that was all brick and is now all stone. if the brick has no paint or no sealer than all you have to do is pick your style and color blend, apply your scratch coat and apply the stone. you can see what it will look like at www.werockwell.com
