it is ok to switch, be careful with painkillers they are highly addictive. My bf was addicted to painkillers. You should get acupunture or seek alternative painrelief. you don't wanna end up in rehab, alot of people are in there for vicoden.

ty for replying...I appreciate it.I was always wary of using painkillers, however given the stituation i am in currently with 3 broken ankle bones i find that i can get no relief unless i use something stronger than tylenol or ibuprophen. As soon as i heal a bit more I am going to look at alternative therapies, as generally i balk at even using Tylenol....I sucessfully made the switch from percocet to vicodin with no problem or side effects whatsoever...///////////////////////////////////thanks again for your advice

If you can't reach your doctor, your pharmasist will give you the best advice.  Having worked in a pharmacy, but not a pharmacist myself, I would say it's okay to start the Vicodin now after 6 hours.  One important question:  How many hours were you supposed to wait between doses of Percocet?  If the time has elapsed, and you'd now be ready for another Percocet,  I'm certain it would be safe to start the Vicodin now.

TY Luvlacegrl,,,,I did that too. As a veteran, i was able to call a 24 hour pharmacy help line and they assured me that a 6 hour wait between ending percocet and starting vicodin was acceptable. I made the change with no problem. However i find the vicodin to be a lot less effective pain-reliever and i do not care for the drowsyiness that accompanies it . Today i was able to maintain on 600 mg ibuprophen taken at 8 hour intervals and now it is bedtime I did take 2 of the 500 mg vicodin.Hopefully I can maintain that regime as i do not want to take narcotics at all if I can keep from doing so and still remain more or less pain free.  TY for your input and advice.

I hope you feel better soon.   I had shoulder surgery 8 weeks ago and have been on several different narcotic pain meds and anti-inflammatories.  The people who give me physical therapy say "bone pain" takes much longer to heal and become pain free than a muscle or cartilage injury or surgery.  This week has been my best week, practically pain free at all times.  You will ge there, eventually.  Until then, rest and take whatever it takes to feel good.  Good luck!

As I see you've figured out the the pain meds thing. You might want to try your health food store for some  vitalzym X,magnisum,1,000-2,000mg.zinc-30mg.This is GREAT for healing faster less pain and getting rid of scar tissue-which can lead to problems later.Great article by Terri L.Saunders explaining enzymes.Good Luck!
