Chances of going to Yale?

I am only a sophomore so I havent taken any SATs or ACTs but I was wondering if I'm on the right track? I took AP Geography last year and got a 5. I am taking AP World History this year. I have taken all honors classes my whole life. I have a gpa of about 3.8 I am in the Diversity club. I tutored kids at a local middle school for a year. I am doing this service program thing all this year, next year and my senior year. I was in girl scouts for eight years. Does any of this sound good? Do I have a chance?

Hi there. It definitely sounds like you're on the right track. Remember that on top of high grades in classes (and nearly perfect scores on your SATs and PSATs), Yale (and other schools) want to see that you will contribute positively to their community. Participating in volunteer programs is definitely a good idea. Make sure to get references along the way because when you start applying, these references will beome very important. Keep up the good work!

Enthusiasm is absolutely the most important thing.  After that, self-confidence is the most important thing.  Even if you don't feel like the confidence you need to muster is warranted, you need to muster it.  Wilful self-conviction is one method.  There is a saying, "Confidence is free."  It's true... it costs nothing, but it is a psychological process to enable you to get it for free.  If you are a juggernaut of enthusiasm and confidence, with great ideas to boot, and those kinds of grades, there is no reason whatsoever you can't get into Yale.  The Ivy League is overrated.  I know, I went to Dartmouth ;-)  If you are into the west coast you might also consider Stanford... a great many very successful internet entrepreneurs arising out of there...
