Cellphone for a hearing impaired person

Hi,

One of my family members is hearing impaired and is using hearing aids. I want to get her a cellphone, but I'm not sure if a normal phone with a speaker would be good enough for her. Any advice?

Hi Romano,

I think most cellphones that have a speaker will be suitable for her, but it's difficult to say without knowing the exact situation of her hearing. In some phones it's a bit tricky to turn on the speaker, so pay attention to that before you buy.

There are also some amplifing devices for cellphones -- for example one called CHAAMP that works with Nokia phones. Look it up in Google, maybe you'll be able to find a better combination than Nokia/CHAAMP.

Hi Romano,

Very thoughtful of you to get a cellphone and to consider her hearing needs. Hearing aids (Behind-the-ear type) typically comes with a T switch or a Telecoil. If so a cellphone that has a telecoil accessory would be great and Nokia has them.

Alternatively you can use a bluetooth attachement for a bluetooth phone like the one offered by http://noizfree.com/
