What makes cats do their wastes specifically in their waste box?

I believe it's because they have a natural instinct to scratch and bury their waste.

To further the others' explanation, it's also done to conceal their presence in a territory from prey or larger predators. Evolutionary quirk in the household of today! I personally find it awesome they come potty trained genetically.

Cats probably do it in the waste box because they have an instinct to bury their ''waste''.Also it probably helps them when you scold them when they do it anywhere else.
