when i start my car hardly any exhaust looks like it is coming out. is my catalytic converter clogged? also would that make my check engine light come on? car runs real rough and sputters when accelerating. the car is a 2002 taurus ses with v6
Sounds like it is. a good way to tell for sure is after driveing it for a while so it's good and hot look under your car and if the cat. is cloged it will most likely be glowing visibly red hot .
Have someone loosen the exhaust at the manifolds....See if the car runs better....If it does ..then....Check to see if you have a restriction in the exhaust. If you have a vacuum gage...install it on the intake some where. You should have a vauum reading of about 16 to 21 inches...When you ''snap'' the throttle it should drop to almost zero and come back to normal immediately! If not ...you are clogged!
