Cat on top of furnace duct in basement

I moved into a new house five days ago and my cat jumped on top of the furnace duct in the basement and won't come down.  I got up on a ladder and tried to grab him, but he bit me severly.  How do I get him down?  He hasn't eaten or used the litter box in days.

She will come down when she's ready. Put food and water on the floor and leave her alone.
