your carb intake depends on how many calories you need/day...this number is specific to you.
height, weight, sex, and age are the components that go into the equation to determine your caloric intake. if you want to lose weight (1-2 pounds/week) you need to consume 500-1000 less calories than your daily total and/or exercise (esp. cardiovascular exercise) in order to burn calories.
you should focus on complex carbs, not simple carbs. always consult with your physician before starting a diet/exercise program. a dietitian can also help you out.
