Check Consumer Reports.

They do thorough testing of vehicles and their annual auto issue also lists used cars to avoid as well as best suggested cars to buy.

You can access them online at www.consumerreports.org (there is a small fee to join) or you should be able to find back issues of the print magazine at your local library.

Not a Jennyus.

Consumer Reports "Car Buying Guide" is a good source for safety, quality, reliability, and price. They have years of experience, car manufacturer history, and can guide you to a car you can feel good about driving. More important than selecting a suitable car is becoming familiar with rules of the road. If you are concerned about your lack of experience and feel that you should have a 5-star rated vehicle for safety, perhaps you should consider driving lessons, if you can afford them. There are a lot of people who drive less than 5-star safety rated cars everyday. Experience and using good common sense when on the road is more important than safety ratings, although car safety ratings is a good consideration. Good luck and Happy Motoring.
