How to Capture Screenshots from Windows Media Player/Realplayer/Quicktime Videos

We all know this problem for quite a while:

You try to capture a screenshot from a wmv/avi/mov running file using print-scr, but each time you get a blank image of the video player.

So how can you take still image caps from a video file, running online or offline?

Much praise for the guys at quickonlinetips.com for describing how to solve this irritating problem:

Remember to look at the comments for more suggestions and notes about the fix.

My 2 cents:

With recent versions of WMP (12) branded for URGE, the trick doesn’t work for DVD’s, even if you disable all accelerations on both WM options and in control panel.
So I had to use PowerDVD, and disable the hardware acceleration on its settings menu - and it worked.

There are lots of desktop recorder programs you can use.

Nice links...these proggies however help to capture screen activity into a video file. The original issue was how to make screenshots off a video file playing in a media player - something that can be done only if you change the settings, as explained in the help link above.
