Firstly, all Canon SLRs that use the EF or EF-S lens mount are EOS cameras. As to your question, I highly recommend the added cost in getting a x0D series camera such as the 50D over a Digital Rebel model. You'll thank me later as your skills grow and realize that the limitations and frustrating functional controls of the Rebels would have decreased the enjoyment of image capture.
