Can'nt take a picture

My canon rebel eos is brand new and when trying to take a picture it;s saying shooting is not possible turn the power switch to [off and on] again or reinstall the batt,???? I did and it dos'nt work.  Thanks

Make sure the battery is fully charged and that the contacts on both the battery as well as the battery contacts inside the battery chamber are clean.  I clean mine on occasion with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

If you still have problems, since the camera is "brand new", exchange it.
