Candida...sexually transmitted or not??

Is Candida a sexually transmitted infection/condition? Or does it come on naturally even if the person is not sexually active? I'm in doubt...I think my now exboyfriend gave me Candida. While I was with my ex, I had 4 bouts with Candida (we always had sex without a condom). Each time I went to my gyn. he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic as well as a prescription for my ex, so we would both be clean. The doctor also recommended I change my soap as I might be allergic to it and to not wear any tight fitting clothing. I obeyed my doctor but never feel quite rid of Candida, there was always some lingering twinges of swelling or itchiness or burning, infact, I remember one time, just 5 minutes after having sex with my ex, my vagina swelled up like a balloon and the next day the burning and itching began. Well, now that I am no longer with my ex (9 months now) I no longer have any effects or symptoms of Candida and I have even gone back to using my old brand of soap....and I now have started a sexual relationship with my new boyfriend and I feel A-OK, perfect infact. Completely clean without any signs of Candida. Any ideas out there? I still think my exboyfriend gave me Candida...but my research tells me it's not a sexually transmitted disease. But I think I'm living proof that it is. Another thought...could it be that I am possibly allergic to the anti-spermicide that is used on most condoms?....Meaning, my ex was having sexual relations with someone else...and then coming to me for sex and there was possibly still a residue left on his penis that infected me? All is possible. I know folks, thank God that I am free of the jerk...but my mind wonders sometimes about this, I mean, it is my health. Thanks readers!

If you are refering to thrush then It can be transmitted via sexual contact BUT it is not a sexually transmitted disease, it is a yeast infection and can be brought on by antibiotics, wearing nylon underwear or very tight jeans/trousers (due to the fact that there is not much air circulation & you sweat more while wearing these clothes).  Alot of women are prone to Thrush and from personal experience it occurs around the time of their period.

Men are more likely to cathch the infection from women via sexual contact as the infection is internal for women (inside the vagina) although there are external symptoms such as itching & a white vaginal discharge that can sometimes have an unpleasant odour (but not always).  With men the infection usually affects the end of their penis which become itchy and inflamed.  BUT men can also get it after a course of antibiotics so it is not always the case that they have got it from a woman.

To treat thrush in women the best method is a combination of a vaginal pessary inseted at home before bed with an applicator similar to that of a tampon and also a clotrimazole cream (usually canesten) applied to the vulva to soothe the external symptoms, the cream should be used for 7 days after the symptoms are gone and sexual contact should be avoided for 14 days due to the fact that the man can carry it and pass it back to the woman causing re-infection.

The man should also treat himself with the cram ny applying it to the end of his penis 3 times a day for 14days even if he has no sypmtoms.

Hope this helped.

do what you do best without saying, for your dreams depends on it.

Well my understanding is that candida or cadidaiosis as it is known is not an std.but can be transmitted from a woman to a man.the main causes of this condition is yeast.it accumlates inside the woman(the vaginal area).and when there is no airration or wearing of tight undercloths, unproper cleaning and when exposed to warm or hot coditions it reacts.then candida is created. It is mostly referred as a womans disease, but it can be either way in rare cases.  you blamed your ex for that but he had nothing to do with it.and in that case if you left or broke up with him coz of that, please apologise to him.

Thank you for your reply to my question.  Regarding the reason for my breaking up with my exboyfriend....no, Clamidia was not the reason for our breaking up, it was just the icing on the very rancid cake.  Therefore I have no reason to appologize to him, it is he who needs to appologize to me everyday for the rest of his very sad life for the numerous cruel and hurtful things he did to me and my family.

You stated in your response that a reason for Clamidia could be improper cleaning.  Regarding my cleanliness...I am very clean, infact after a shower I use the bidet before I dress, and bidet when necesary throughout the day.  It was my ex who would come to me stinking of sweat "down there", and I once even saw him after he got out of the shower putting back on his dirty underware.  So it was always his cleanliness that was in question, not mine.  Thanks again for your response.
