How do you turn off the "you got mail" announcement?

I'm going crazy with your "you've got mail" announcement.

Whenever I read my mail at night it wakes up half the house.

How do I get rid of it?

In Webmail you can turn off the "You've Got Mail" message by going into Settings and unchecking "Play a sound when new mail arrives" under the General section.

In AOL versions 9.0 and 9.1 you can disable the message by going into Mail Setting under the Mail menu.  Once there, click on the Advanced tab and then uncheck the “Play sound when new mail is delivered” setting.

In AOL Desktop click on the Help drop down menu in the upper right-hand corner and select Settings.  Under the Mail tab in the Notifications section you can change your settings as desired.

The easiest way is to turn off your speakers, turn down the volume, or use headphones.

If you use AOL 9.1 or earlier on Windows, open the Windows Sounds control panel and disable the sound for the "you've got mail" event.

If you use AOL Desktop then you're stuck with the first options as there is no other way to change the sounds.

If you use webmail (http://webmail.aol.com), go to "settings" and under "General" / "New Mail" and uncheck "

Play a sound when new mail arrives"

If you are using AOL webmail at http://webmail.aol.com , go to "Settings"(upper right hand corner) and under "General"->"New Mail" go ahead and uncheck "Play a sound when new mail arrives".

That seems to apply to the short sound that alerts you if new mail arrives after you are already signed on.  The complaint is the "You've Got Mail"  (male voice) when you initially sign on, and the "Goodbye"  (male voice) when you sign off.  I would LOVE to be able to disable those.    Also, does anyone know why AOL Desktop (Mac) will not allow us to SAVE an email to our desktop or to a folder?   I have to sign on to an OLD,OLD,OLD version of AOL in order to SAVE mail.  Thanks.
