There's a wildfire in California today and it made me wonder: I know that there's a shortage of freshwater in California, so do the firefighters use sea water to extinguish the wildfire? Or is the salt too harmful for the environment for that, so they use fresh water?

I remember a Beverly Hills 90210 episode where there was a big fire, and they used both drinking water and sea water to put it out.
I realize this is not really a source of information, but still it might indicate the usual habits.
