CMOS stand for - Complementary metal oxide semiconductor which is technology of manufacturing IC.

But, in the common PC's language CMOS stands for the motherboard operating systems which makes you PC start working when you turn it on. In general it monitoring the booth sequence and integrate all the parts connecting to the motherboard.
