Buying a video cam

I'm a bit confused by all the methods used in Video cams. What would be the best investment for a beginner? Dv, DVD or HD based camera?

I would suggest a DVD camera since it is more technologically advanced than a video camera. Even if you are a beginner it is always best to move forward and not backward. The camera itself is very easy to use and with simple software you can edit your images.

I am big. It's the pictures that got small!

I tend to disagree with the previous answer, but you need to provide a bit more information. What are you going to produce with the camera? Is it home videos, prosumer wedding videos, a videos you'll produce to make a living or a ultra-low budget independent feature film? No less important is where are you located in the world (Video-standard-wise). Without this information it is difficult to give you a competent answer.
