Looking to buy repo cars for sale can be risky, but if you are organized there are many bargains to be had.
Impounded cars could be abandonded cars, repo vehicles and even seized vehicles.

I would suggest you get a comprehensive list of vehicles up for auction (I'll give you a link further on), and do your own independent valuation of all the cars which you could be interested in. Set a ceiling bid / value for every vehicle and don't go more than that price.

Note : The repo cars which you would like to buy should have titles (or at the very least  - be able to be titled) or else you can't obtain insurance.

If you have not experienced a repo car auction already then I recommend that you attend a few auctions beforehand so as to have a better comprehension of the process - it's critical to build up a bit of confidence seeing that car auctions can be quite nerve-racking the first occasion.

Once you have attended a few auctions you may begin to recognize the regulars - the people in shirt and tie are in all likelihood used car salesmen.

Take note of which vehicles they offer on , they're assured to know the market (what price they can market the car for) and in addition the general condition of the cars - they will most likely be on friendly terms with the auction employees and would get extra info - most certainly more than us general public.

Consider that the repossessed car dealers will be looking to get a fat profit on the repo cars they buy so they can't bid as much as you - this whopping profit that the salesmen would add on could potentially be your huge savings ....
(This is the most secure method that I have found out for obtaining cheap impounded cars for sale - you could go it solo if you have reliable advice and feel certain.)

The top way to find info about future repossessed car auctions are with

Gov repo car auctions , they are authorities and maintain one of the biggest, up to date and most trustworthy information archives of Government & Police auctions of used, repo, impounded and seized vehicles, trucks and SUV's.

Otherwise you can try and check through hundreds of internet sites, magazines and newspapers, plus / or contact various vehicle repo institutes and credit unions. This would take heaps of time and effort , and honestly, you would not come near to the quantity and standard of up to date data which a business who focusses on this could. If you would like access to the top bargains on offer then getting the most complete and up to date info is vital.

Hopefully I helped you a little with your search to buy repo cars and impounded cars for sale.

All the best, and if you're patient and do the groundwork I'm sure you will be able to come across an excellent deal!

Bargins can be had, however, as Lisa said in her answer, the majority of repo vehicles are purchased by dealers due to the extra profit they can make.  I am a regular eBay seller and buyer and you always see many vehicles that are repo's being offered by dealers.  You find this out by using the Carfax reports.  Dealers usually buy the newer vehicles at the major auction outlets and on the east coast, the one in Penna. comes to mind. Dealers also send cars and trucks that they have taken in trade to auctions if they sit on their lots for several months with no buyer and they also send those vehicles which may not be mechanically up to standards and older/high mileage vehicles. There are local auctions in most states that sell abandonded, impound vehicles.  Generally those vehicles used by Government have been well taken care of maintenance wise.  Impound, seized vehicles are probably the most risky buy.

If you decide to go this route, be careful! Remember you are dealing with professionals in the business and are bidding against those with much experience in this process.

there is no "real" list for government seized cars - banks do not sell reposesed cars or homes , they are all turned over to either a car wholesaler or a realtor company If you have a certain car or house in mind then contact the bank -they may or may not tell you

Now and then-if you catch the bank at just the right time -and ask -they may offer you the car or home at what is owed on it

Car sales on bank repo cars / vehicles?

I really need a cheap car and don't have much money - I'm thinking of a car that has been repo or seized because they are so inexpensive and I am pretty desperate...
