Building a career as a young mother or a young person while giving back to your community as a leader

I want to set up my home on the river next to a 4 year college  and two naval bases as a leadership home.  This is where young people can live and receive the training to go out and help other struggling young people as mentors. I want to show others that their lives can be more fulfilling by helping others start their career, and by becoming future leaders of their community.

I also own a farm in Prince Frederick, where I can divide into 7 lots, placing group homes up to 16 individuals, plus volunteers, and owner of the home in one home.

I need suggestions on how to approach building a non-profit organization that can help young mothers and young people build a career, by using the homes as a base.

Any excuse not to study!

Hi Paul

I would suggest that the first thing you do is go to an accountant and a lawyer who have experience with non-profits and register yourself as charity so you can find out all the tax benefits.  Then you need to organise some sort of fundraising activity in the local area to raise funds and let everyone know what you are doing.  You could have a fair, or a quiz night or a sponsored walk for the whole community.  Do some research on the web as there are lots of ideas you can find.

best of luck to you.
