Why are my brownies hard around the edges and not set in the center?

We always recommend checking your oven temperature by baking a cake mix cake. If the cake is done within the timings on the package, your oven temperature is ok. If not, check your manufacturer's guide as to how to adjust your oven's temperature, or call a local appliance repair shop. If your oven temperature is ok, check to make sure you are using the correct pan called for in the recipe. Also make sure you measure your ingredients correctly.

That happens to me but i like them soft and gooey in the middle.  You could cook them a bit longer if you want them harder, or turn down the oven and cook them for longer so the outside does not burn.  When you cook with a metal dish, the outside of the mixture gets hotter from the dish.

I saw this product online in several different stores. I just did a google search for it, and here is one link: http://www.solutions.com/jump.jsp?itemID=10726&itemType=PRODUCT

No more undercooked centers. :)

I think you might be using too much oil to grease the pan...maybe try to use a scant tablespoon of flour or dry brownie mix to dust the pan after you grease it.  Also, maybe your oven temp is set too high and the edges are getting well done before the center.  Check to make sure the item you're baking is in the center of the oven and not touching the walls or another pan's edges.
