Bridesmaid speeches?

Hello there, I'm looking for some sample bridesmaid speeches or toasts, or even maid of honor toasts that I can perhaps adapt to suit a bridesmaid  speech (the two should be similar enough, right?)

Plus, I would appreciate some tips / advice on what to do to calm the nerves in front of a large group of people. The bride and I have been friends forever and she knows how shy I am, and how nervous I am about the bridesmaid speech.  I just don't want to mess it up ...

Do you know any good wedding or wedding speech websites that offer good information on bridesmaid speeches or toasts?

Thank you.

(Hi Francis, remember, you must confirm your Yedda subscription in the mail Yedda sends you or they cancel your account, brutal - I know, they don't make it very clear either.... )

Hi, yes, I spent a fair bit of time searching for bridesmaid speeches on the internet when it was my turn - unfortunately I had left my bridesmaid speech right until the last night before the wedding. Not much time to prepare! Needless to say the adjective "cold sweat" doesn't come close to how I was feeling!
I can laugh about it now but at the time...

Luckily I did find something worthwhile on the web - Dan Steven's bridesmaid speeches . (Maid of honor toasts or bridesmaid toasts - it's the same deal).

There was a small charge at the time (perhaps 19 dollars, might be more now?) that I gladly paid (given my predicament). I had a quick look at which bridesmaid  speech best suited our group, circumstances and also my style.
I'm not embarassed to admit that I copied most of the speech (ahem), added some of the free jokes (including 1 or 2 I had in ammunition) and added some personal stories relating to the bridal party.

The whole process from sign up to finished speech was very fast, I had the whole bridesmaid speech prepared within 45 minutes, and most importantly it was original, funny and sincere.
Because I already had a structure from which to work, it made adding my personal points fun, rather than a task.

For the speed and peace of mind, I would do it again.

I didn't memorize my bridesmaid toast, I just kept the main points on cards (which are better than paper - people can see shaky paper!)
The audience laughed plenty, I was told that the speech sounded very professional, and many (including the bride and groom) were very surprised - I am a usually reserved person.

For the nerves , I used the "Audio confidence booster" which came free with the bridesmaid speeches; and as I said previously I used some material from the joke book that was also included.

Best of luck, I hope you give a fantastic maid of honor / bridesmaid speech.

Hello Francis, yes bridesmaid speeches and maid of honor speeches would be the same thing.

Indiana has given some good advice.

Bottom line: I think the idea is to give the best possible speech, that is sincere, but at the same time quick and hassle free to prepare.

Good luck.

For tips on giving your speech and staying calm, have a look at GroomPower's section on giving the groom's speech .  There are some good bullet point tips at the end which would apply to anyone giving a speech.  There are also a few pointers about content which you might be able to borrow.  Good luck!

I think it's a great idea to give a bridesmaid speech. My sister was our only bridesmaid and I didn't have a best man so she gave a 'best man speech' and it went really well.

Good luck with the search for bridesmaid speech samples and examples - if I find anything i will answer back here.

There's no official time for the Best man and Maid of honor to make their speeches. Simply during the reception. It's preferred before dinner, that way they don't have to compete with the food/drinks and the clicking of forks and knives.

Begin your bridesmaid speech by thanking everyone for coming to celebrate and tell a couple of good memories that you and the bride shared and how much she means to you, etc. make it about 5 mins and at the end, have everyone toast to the bride and groom!!

It has been my experience that whomever the Bridesmaid is there for, she is speaking for that person, like for example if you are in a non-traditional wedding and you are actually standing for the groom instead of the bride, you'd talk about the groom and your experiences with him, etc.
