I think that the first thing I notice is eye contact. If someone is really interested in what I have to say they are usually looking into my eyes and facing me completely (instead of standing sideways or leaning away from me). The smile is also essential. If we are talking about unromantic social interaction then I usually note the above mentioned traits as well as what a person is doing with their hands. If we are talking about flirtateous body language then I think it is all in the eyes and the smile. I think that people who are romantically interested in one another find discreet ways to touch each other and hold eye contact for longer. Does that sound about right or is it just me?

Body language is comprised of using the whole body, from the way we use our hands, the direction our eyes move, the way you tilt your head, the way you sit and the way you stand.

A person that is good at reading body language can learn a lot about a person by reading the signs. As an example Police Detectives use body language to exude confidence and to tell if a person is lying to them.

Sales people use it also to read a customer to know when to move in for the close. Men and women use it everyday to show interest in each other or not.

Learning to read body language is not as tough as people think and one skilled in it can use it to their advantage in many situations.

Here are some good resources for you to study.

You can read a lot about someone from simply watching how they act. The eyes give off the most information about how someone is feeling but what people do with their hands (including what they touch with them or where they place them) can be almost as important.
