Bluetongue disease in Britain

How do diseases such as the Bluetongue, that was recently appeared for the first time in britain, spread across and between continents?

Britain is quite isolated, and was wondering how could it be possible.

A disease like the Blue tongue which mostly hurt ruminants and sheep may be spread across by international trade. Nevertheless, it has low likelihood in the UK case because of heavy restrictions (I've read it somewhere on the web). A completely different reason may be windborne infected insects. This may turn very reasonable if wind direction is just right.

In my day job I write about Blood Pressure Treatment and treat those who suffer from blood pressure problems. Low blood pressure is a particular interest and I'm often asked about how to lower cholesterol levels. A healthy heart is becoming a huge focus for many of us nowadays. Improving your blood pressure control and thus the health of your heart and circulation system is really important. My most recent online "adventure" is to start a facility for people to ask me my opinion and to provide high quality health information by answering medical questions online.

I also have a special interest in the problem of feeling Tired All the Time and in those who suffer from chronic fatigue or lethargy. This seems to tie in also to skin care issues or skin treatment problems and suggestions. Tiredness and fatigue can lead to major problems for many individuals in modern society and the way that this can affect all areas of general health can be quite invasive in terms of daily life and coping skills.

My work with footballers and athletes leads to a focus on Painful Shoulder conditions and on the problems associated with frozen shoulder or whiplash injuryRotator cuff injury causes problems for many of my patients.

When not working I daydream about my next amazing european vacation trip  My favorite European cities include Paris and Barcelona and my next blog project will be to write about the best way to spend a night in Paris and how to find an apartment in Barcelona. I just love European travel in all its forms.

This is from wikipedia and you can read the whole wiki article here

Bluetongue has been observed in Australia, the USA, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Its occurrence is seasonal in the affected Mediterranean countries, subsiding when temperatures drop and hard frosts kill the adult midge vectors. Bluetongue has been spreading northward since October 1998, perhaps as a result of global warming,[4] which may promote viral survival and vector longevity during milder winters.[5] In August 2006, cases of bluetongue were found in the Netherlands, then Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg.[6][7] In September 2007, the UK reported its first ever suspected case of the disease, in a Highland cow on a rare breeds farm near Ipswich, Suffolk. [8] Since then the virus has spread from cattle to sheep in Britain.[9] By October 2007 bluetongue had become a serious threat in Scandinavia and Switzerland.[10] Although the disease is not a threat to humans the most vulnerable common domestic ruminants in the UK are cattle, goats and, especially, sheep.

Hope that helps
