It did cause lower demand for conflict diamonds, but mostly raised awareness from consumers, which caused a fundamental shift in the sellers, who were forced to either work harder to verify the source, or hide their methods b(and sources ) better. I prefer tanzanite, which has only increased in demand, simply because it is, to me a very beautiful gem and is not generally involved in conflict trade.
