My Bearded Dragon is 13 years old and doing fine. They are omnivorous, so they need to be fed insects (usually crickets) and greens. You need a large cage, and I recommend a heating pad on the floor, along with lights. Once they are grown (about a year), they don't require a lot of work. While they are growing, they need to eat a lot of small crickets, so you need to pay a lot of attention to feeding them. Definitely study the web site Osher recommends or get a book, because there are important details on lighting requirements, nutritional supplements, and temperature gradients.

Lizards can make excellent pets, but first you must be prepared for what you are getting yourself into. they can grow up to 24 inches, their lifespan is 4-10 years.

Bearded dragons are not so expensive, but do require the investment of a good terrarium and UVA/UVB lighting to keep them warm.

For a single bearded dragon a bare minimum of a 40 gallon tank will be necessary, but bigger is better.

A secure lid will also be necessary.

here is a link to a company that breeds and markets bearded dragons and other types of exotic pets:

Thank you for the info.

I was under the impression the Bearded Dragons are less sensitive to cold than Iguanas - do you know anything about it?

What about food - anything special these lizards need?

Bearded dragons are sometimes difficult to raise and with inadequate care they will die.  It does require a responsible person to care for a dragon properly.  If you don't have the time or energy to care for it properly, you might want to rethink this one as a pet.  Even the wrong bedding can kill this breed of lizard.  If you're serious about this, buy a handbook or research Bearded Dragon care online or at the library.  After you've done this, you will be better able to make your decision.

If find one of those "Birded Dragons", will you send me a picture? I've never seen one! Haha. Beardies are great pets. They'll stick to your shirt like velcro and just hang out. :]
