RE: Bipolar/ADHD HOGWASH??

50 years ago, the diagnosis would have been "juvenile delinquent", not bi polar or ADD or whatever.  Eventually kids grew out of being "trouble makers" and turned into responsible adults, or a judge ordered them into the army, and then they straightened out.  At lot of people fell through the cracks though, that did have medical conditions go undiagnosed, and ended up in institutions or jails being treated as hopeless cases when they could been helped.

A lot of people have the opinion that we are over medicated individually and as a society, and in a trillion dollar health business, abuses are bound to happen.  So what do you propose to do to solve the problem?

RE: Bipolar/ADHD HOGWASH??

The issue wasn't discussed 30 to 50 years ago and many people were committed to "mental institutions" without proper diagnosis or treatment.

RE: Bipolar/ADHD HOGWASH??

I have a son with a bi polar condition. It is very real and difficult to deal with. I also have a multihandicapped daughter, blind, autiistic and brain damaged from meningitis. Hard to diagnose the autisium. But meds have mellowed out her well being. I would not put aside the possibilities because it can lead to suicidal tendencies and serious depression. Although there are some natual foods that can help & worther investigation.

RE: Bipolar/ADHD HOGWASH??

I agree with you!!  As a Psychiatric patient for 25 years, I have been diagnosed with a myriad of illness' that were improper.  I have had pill bottles coming out my bottom.  Psychiatry, unfortunately, is not an exact science, and there are a lot of quacks out there.  I have been in a few Psychiatric Hospitals, and in one instance, there was this doctor, who had many patients, diagnosed everyone of them with Bipolar.  As for ADHD, I was diagnosed with that, and I know I don't have that.  I refused the diagnoses and refused the medication.  I know I have Bipolar, unfortantly, but I take my meds, and they make me feel 100%  better.  I have a psychiatric history in my family, unfortantly.  Thanks for clarifying your question.

RE: Bipolar/ADHD HOGWASH??

I am a person with bipolar and adhd and I almost think that they both go hand in hand at least with my case.  As long as I am taking my medication properly I do get the best results from the medications prescribed.  I also see a therapist this helps with the PTSD syndrome
