A Bias for Boys

Birth statistics suggest that some Asian immigrants to the U.S. are using sex selection to ensure they have male babies. What's your reaction to this finding?

Well, I am shocked. Shocked that someone has actually received money for this study. Lets give them another million or so, so they can study, just how useless the first study was. A mine is a terrible thing to waste. I studied that for free.

I have not heard of it but it would not surprise me because in Asia (and other countries) male children are preferred to female children, because they are seen as an asset while females are seen as liability.

Bias for boys

Rep. Barney Frank. The outspoken Massachusetts Democrat hired a male prostitute who ran a prostitution service from Frank’s residence in the 1980s. Only two Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to censure him in 1990.

Surprised Shame on them. Does this girls are only useful needed just to produce more boys? This is the 21st century people, when a girl is born are they going to kill them the way they do in China. This is  america that's murder, what ever untolerable practices that take place back home cn not be used here. What is sad so many people would like to have a child no matter what the sex, and these people want to play God and pick and chose. No that is not the way it is done.

There's still that bias here, only it's not so blatant. One guy I know has 5 wonderful daughters and is still mad at his wife. He should have stayed awake in biology class. Another had 2 daughters and then his perfect son - a real loser who tried to commit suicide and ended up a vegetable. My husband and I have 2 amazing daughters and are extremely proud of their academic and athletic accomplishment.

Meeting on Openness Closed to Public

It's hardly the image of transparency the Obama administration wants to project: A workshop on government openness is closed to the public. The event Monday for federal employees is a fitting symbol of President Barack Obama's uneven record so far on the Freedom of Information Act, a big part of keeping his campaign promise to make his administration the most transparent ever. As Obama's first year in office ends, the government's actions when the public and press seek information are not yet matching up with the president's words.
