I have a male bearded dragon who is about a year old. I noticed when we first got him he had a lesion on the inside elbow of his arm. I was told it was a cricket bite, but knew better in the upcoming months when the scales adhered and formed a cluster like scab. I've tried bathing, antibiotic ointment, and gently peeling excess skin away. I could see raw flesh underneath so I stopped. I've tried letting it dry out, afraid keeping ointment on it would be breading ground for bacteria. I am so worried and don't know what else to do for him, as his condition has just recently been rapidly spreading. It has grown up his arm, into his shoulder and around his ear (jawline) on the left side. I am wondering what this condition might be, the cluster is very tall in heighth now and is smelly, but he has a hearty appetite and seems to be happy and in no pain. He has a hard time with his left arm, as it is swollen from the condition. I expect maybe a fungal infection and wonder if silvadene would be appropriate or ineffective. I have been to site after site looking for answers to no avail. Please Help!! He is such a good lizard.
As for the bearded dragon, I'm not sure what it could be. I'd like to know more specifications. Is the arm like hard to move or is it simply growing the infection on it. My friends dragon had a combination of some type of sore on the arm as well as MBD. That was very unfortunate. However, the sore ended up healing rather quickly by itself. The MBD wasn't that compliant though. It was getting worse until I convinced her to go to the vet. We found out that the lights on her beardie were over six months old and had most likely lost their UVB emitting force. I believe she had been using repti suns and after that she started using the new Zilla Desert tube lights that had come out at the time which turned out to be really good. All in all it was a good thing we went to the vet. And that is what I recommend for you, although your post is old. I hope you went to the vet because there are some things that are out of our hands. Like I said we would not have pinpointed that my friends beardie problem was due to the old bulbs.
But fungal infections that I've seen on beardies appear to be internal and present themselves with external symptoms like these scab-looking things that you describe. Try to raise heat and humidity. Humid air makes makes breathing easier, increases metabolism, circulation, and absorption of medications and vitamins, which in turn helps the immune system and ultimately promotes healing. But the medications have to be given by a vet. And these infections take a LONG time to heal.
