why is there an overflow drain on a bathroom sink but mot on my kitchen sink?

kitchen sinks don't have overflow drains because they are often filled with water to soak things; you want the water to be high enough to cover dirty dishes and stuff.  bathroom sinks aren't made to soak, and the drains often become clogged with hair (because most people do not groom themselves in the kitchen), which makes the overflow drain both possible and necessary to prevent flooding.
