It depends on the church.  They support the Pasor in his duties basicly.  They usually fill in the pulpit when pastor is gone, they assist with church issues that the pastor can not attend to for one reason or antoher.   I would look at the churches constitiution to see if there are spesified duties.  They should also be an unbiased advocate fro the flock/pastor.  IE if they see somthing not right they need to say somthing to whichever party.

What do you mean by associate Pastor? I am Baptist and we have three ministers...senior minister who is in top leadership position...the youth minister which works on outreach of our youth...and a part time minister which makes visitations for those folks in need of some compassionate care. I live in the country and our church is growing spiritually as well as by numbers because all ministries of the church pray for the Holy Spirit and they work together. Sometimes service involves the ministers leadership to go into the hurting harvest, roll up your sleeves and show Jesus Christ in action. Our ministers lead by example and I am so happy that I am under their teaching.

Hi Sam,

Depends what your definition of Associate Minister is. Usually an associate minister helps the senior pastor and takes over when the senior pastor is on vacation or on a missionary trip etc. The goal of an associate minister is to be a senior Pastor some day.
