Backup photos during a long trip

What is the best way to make sure pictures taken on a long trip (6 months...) are saved forever?

CD-s can be stolen, so I guess the best way is to upload to the internet, but then - to which site? They usually limit you (or charge...) and reduce the picture quality.

Picasa web seems great, but I think it requiers Picasa installed on the computer - ??

For me, it'd be Flickr every time. You can start on a free account, which limits you to 20MB upload bandwidth per month. It costs $25 per year for a Pro account, which gives unlimited uploads and a lot of other features. Flickr doesn't resize your photos, so you always have access to the originals. (Even on a free account it may not be obvious how to get your hi-resolution originals, but it is still quite easy to do).

Not only will you have access to your photos, but if you choose to make some of the photos public, then others can see them and comment on them too.

What I do is zip the pictures and send them from my Yahoo account to my Gmail account, so I have them in both places and that's pretty secure. The problem is that it takes some time.

Hi ChenInSA

there are different way to backup photos during a trip:

1. portable CD burner.

good backup, you must have CD's to burn on.

you can burn more than one copy.

    pretty slow solution

    need batteries

2. portable Hard Disk (I have one) .

fast, unlimited space. but you have only one copy.

    need batteries

 3. Internet.

best security, but you don't have access to internet all the time, and       uploading pictures takes a lots of time

besides, there are sites like flickr  (which I am a member of) that can upload pictures from the internet browser without installing, and you don't have to resize your pictures, you can upload the originals but it takes time.

if you are afraid to lose the pictures, you can buy a portable cd burner, burn 2 copies each time, and send one copy home.
