Baby girl experiencing 1st period

How common is it for a Female Baby having menstrual period after birth? This was experience with 2 of my babies. Dr. advised it was common yet I have never heard another mom relate to this. Any long term studies done to see if this would affect future of girl's hormonal balance as an adult woman?

It is not uncommon, though it is not an actual "menstrual period." It's just due to hormone levels. I believe it doesn't generally continue more than a day or so.

You might ask your children's pediatrician if s/he can provide you with more information.
