I am not very familiar with a northstar engine. However, after some limited research with blown or leaking head gaskets, I have discovered that this is somewhat different to the convential v-8 engine. most knowledgeable people recommend a complete engine rebuild or replacement. There is a website "heal-a-seal.com" which claims to have a product to repair northstar head gasket leaks. Pistons will need a visual inspection.
